The Lewes Singers

Lewes Singers is a small, occasional choir based in Lewes, East Sussex. We are all experienced choral singers, brought together by conductor Nicholas Houghton.

We sing services at cathedrals, give occasional concerts and fund-raisers, and are available for weddings and functions.

We don’t meet regularly but we get together for two or three rehearsals before a date. Although the Lewes Singers only formed in 2004, many of us have sung together over a number of years in various choirs throughout the South East. From a pool of about 30 members we usually field a choir of between 16 and 22 singers.

Our Music Director is Lewes-based organist and conductor Nick Houghton.

Members of Lewes Singers currently sing with the following choirs:

BBC Symphony Chorus
Baroque Collective Singers
BREMF Consort of Voices
Brighton Consort
Brighton Singers
Downland Chorale
Eastbourne Choral Society
Esterhazy Chamber Choir
Rushmoor Choir

I attended your evensong at Winchester Cathedral on 29/10 and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have heard many good quality Cathedral choirs but have never heard a full psalm sung unaccompanied. It was very good. I particularly enjoyed the responses and wonder whether Nick Houghton has had them published or whether it’s possible to purchase a copy direct from him

  2. Hi Claire, thanks very much for your kind comments, glad you enjoyed our singing. You can certainly get a copy of Nick’s responses directly from us. If you’d like to drop me an email I’ll let you know the details – robin at robinhoughton.com – best wishes, Robin
